code name: lovely

August 26th, 2008 at 8:00 am . Posted in bloggy things .

I’ve always wondered about some of your blog name meanings so now is the time to dish!

Why is your blog called what it is called? Your name, favorite color, imaginary friend, a word you like, favorite food, the crackhead down the street?

Whatever it is, I want to know.

My blog was started on a whim (as are all the awesome ones!) and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to call it. I like the word LOVELY and ran with it so there you have it.

Oh! How Lovely!

Your turn.

Let’s see. The Modern Beau (before he earned that pseudonym) suggested I start a blog about everything that modern women like myself like. The modern girl seemed to already be used in a lot of places, so I went with The Modern Gal since I’m a southern gal through and through. Plus I say gal quite often.

Mine is kind of rediculous, actually.

My blog name is “simply, me.” because I didn’t really plan on keeping this blog around and it’s the only thing I could come up with. I wasn’t worried about being original, but now I wish I had been!

My actually blog address is “okayyeah.blogspot.com”. Again, it has to do with everything-under-the-sun being taken, so, I just did the first thing that came into my head. I want to switch to a dot-com, but the ones I want are taken, so I may have to do the whole dot-net thing, too…

My alias is “wishcake” and that is just because it’s a random email address I came up with one day, and it makes me happy. So, I keep it around.

My hairdresser once told another patron in the shop that she couldn’t have hair my color because, “You can’t get this from a bottle.” So that is my name.

My original blog was a generic “Phil’s Blog” on a community site. I didn’t know what kind of theme I wanted for it, so I settled on a theme that could involve everything. At the time, I wanted to be able to be completely open about who I am (without revealing personal information, of course), so in a title it became “All Things…” of who? Me. Hence, All Things Phil. I look at it and sometimes think it’s a tad egocentric, but then I remember when I started it and came up with the name, that it is anything but. It serves to always remind me to be myself. It’s good for me to have that reminder, and better still that I did the reminding myself.

What an awesome question! And so many responses!

Mine is called “Can You Point Me To The Bar..?” for a few reasons, mostly because it’s a well-worn phrase. I use it a lot. But also because I figure when I travel next year, it’ll be the only phrase I’ll learn in different languages. Oh, and maybe “please”.

Long story short, I was looking for a short one-word domain that reflected my life back then (actually, it still does! Hmph.). I thought of despair, desolate, words along those lines. I came across a synonym for desolate: crestfallen. Hmmm…

Well, I mean everyone loves a Boston girl right? When I first started, I was “The mere sense of living is joy enough” ummm and that lasted like a day. I knew I wanted something with Boston in my name and “Everyone Loves a Boston Girl” just seemed perfect.

And as for We are not Martha….well, we’re not. But we wish we were!

my original (pb&razz) was named after peanut butter & raspberry jelly sandwiches as i ate them ALL the time right around when i started my blog. and they are two of my favorite things (not including chocolate or booze).

so just changed to i’d rather be dancing because…i would. and this is in my facebook profile and i think it clearly sums me up. so there.

but i am always jealous of people with awesome blog titles because i can never think of them.

Well, if you see my picture you will totally understand :) My natural curly hair has been my “thing” since I was a little girl. My dad called me Curly, guys starting in middle school called me Curlysue–I even fit that onto my license plate in high school (CRLYSUE). I love my hair and as for the “Twists & Turns” part–well, my life seems to be nothing but a same soap opera. Although I don’t always get around to posting about it all or to the fullest extent–I’d never get anything else done–my life is all but boring.

cleveland’s a plum came from an old failed marketing campaign for the city of cleveland back in the 70′s. it was, “new york may be the big apple, but cleveland’s a plum!” there is an old retro store on the east side that had a tshirt with this slogan on it. i bought it for my sister who lives in new york because i loved the phrase so much. a month later i turned it into a blog.

    great topic by the way!

I really wish I had a great story about this. I’m always sad to tell how it actually came about.

When I decided to blog, I knew I wanted to write about my adventures in Chicago so I wanted something cute-sounding so I said, “I’m starting a blog and it will be titled ‘The Everyday Adventures of Me in the City.’”

Sometimes I wish it was a bit more creative than that.

I picked the name of my blog, Scattered Starlight, because I like the sound of it. I wanted something with “star” in the title because my name around the web has been secondstartoright. And right now I feel like I’m a personal disaster area because of everything going on in my life–grad school, sick/dying family members, and working full time–so I chose scattered.

Most of the time though, I look at my name and wonder if it actually makes any sense to anyone else. I’ve though about blogging about it, and might still.

Mine is currently “Our Little Apartment”. Why? Because last summer after we got married, we moved into a teeny, tiny, cozy apartment.

Some people take the term “slice of pink” to mean something provocative, which it totally does not.

My Blog is called “Letters in E Minor” it’s a baby blog and not really going anywhere yet but the original concept was to have a place for the letters i write to people when i have something really important to say. because I think Letters are for the deeper truths. so the blog is supposed to be all truth.

the thing is that truth isn’t always nice. I play piano and E Minor is one of my favourite chords, it’s melancholy, dark and beautiful. so I was hoping that “Letters…” would take the same tone.

Yeah I didn’t like it either and one day I was in the bookstore at FIT and saw a mug with the saying This Is Not The Life I Ordered!, had one of those aha! moments and that became my blog name. It very much fits me and my life and my big plans I’ve always had that definitely have never worked out.

I’m a big fan of clever blog names, so it was obvious that’s what mine needed to be. I combined what I was writing about – finding balance between all the aspects of my college-girl life – with something dance-related. I knew I wanted the title to reflect my love of dancing, and somehow I came up with Finding My Balance and realized that it really also describes my life and what I write about.

my blog used to be called “coming up short” because it was a take on the fact that i’m short and that I feel like i’m aways “coming up short” in life. if i ever write a book that’s going to be the title.

These are fun to read! My story is not that interesting… I was fifteen and I’d started a blog and I needed something to call it. Something self-deprecating and…alliterative? Why not? So, Confessions of a Chronic Dork. I’m not entirely sure I still like it, but I’m also a creature of habit.

Someday I would like to start a new blog, mostly because the only thing more painful than reading what I wrote as a fifteen-year-old is knowing that other people can read what I wrote as a fifteen-year-old. I would not mind burying those archives and moving to a bright new spot on the Internet. To that end, I purchased the domain name I’m currently using, because Miss OJ (or just OJ) was what people called me in high school. So my next title will be something about juice, I guess.
