victory is sweet

I’ve had a Blackberry Pearl for going on two years now. At first it was pretty cool then the iPhone came out and it became ‘old technology’. Okay, it’s not really old but I like to try to stay on top of my game. I mean, using the same phone for almost two years? That is damn near blasphemy!

Then there was the issue of my Blackberry Pearl being a piece of crap. The trackball never wanted to work, it would get stuck, the menu button never wanted to go to menu, dust would get stuck under the screen and the screen would eventually pop up. It was one thing after the other. THEN, there was the other issue of my being with Tmobile and the iPhone being exclusively on AT&T and costing 5 million dollars for an iPhone plan.  The boy got an 1st generation iPhone and unlocked it so I figured I’d do the same eventually. When rumors of the 3G came out, I figured I’d wait for that, buy one and crack that shit!

I was about to get me the newest iPhone!

Then Steve Jobs ruined it for me with all this “you have to have a contract to buy an iPhone” shit. Remember, I wrote him an angry letter expressing my displeasure that he wouldn’t help me cheat the system?

Well what do you think about them apples, Mr. Jobs?

It may have taken awhile but I got me an iPhone! Yeah, it’s a second generation and 8GB but it sure isn’t a stupid, busted BlackBerry Pearl.

I actually was going to take pictures of me and the iPhone running through a field of tulips in slow motion and then draw pink hearts all over it but Chicago weather isn’t being very agreeable. Instead you get me with my phone covering my face because it is too damn early to make myself look pretty and I refused to change out of comfy pants and a 3 year old Armor for Sleep hoodie when it is 11 degrees out (I totally just checked the temp on my iPhone!). At least the phone looks pretty, right?

Okay, now I need your help.

What are the must have iPhone apps? I need a fabulous Twitter app to feed my Twitter addiction too!

I got my iPhone (second gen, 8GB) in July, and I still love it. These are my fave apps so far:

Useful – I couldn’t live without Shazam, Twitteriffic, Facebook and the WordPress apps.

Fun: Zippo Lighter, I Can Has Cheezburger (for LOLcats at my disposal)

Let me know what else you find!

For the love of all that is holy stay away from the Zippo Lighter app. It drives me insane.

My roommate has some pretty awesome apps, but I can’t remember the name of them right now. One is a restaurant finder, which I heart.

I am a little jealous. I told myself that when I get a grown up job I could get a fancy phone that does more than call (okay, mine also takes pictures/videos and plays music, but that’s beside the point), but alas, I need to find a full-time job still to achieve that dream.
I am also a little disappointed about the lack of tulip-filled fields, step it up Chicago!

I love Twitterific. I also use the facebook app and Shazam pretty regularly. Oh, and Pandora! The Google app is cool, you can get to your reader pretty easily without using Safari. Wikipanion is mini wikipedia. Lastly, Yelp has a good app! Oh yeah, these are all free of course!

Proof that I am old: I’ve had my Razr for 3+ years and am still perfectly happy with it. Although my hubby is older and has had 3 phones in the same span of time so maybe I’m just to lazy to learn how to use a new phone?

    Anyway – enjoy your iphone!

I also use and love Twitterific!

I 4th or 5th the votes for Twitterific & Facebook – but I also use the Livestrong Calorie tracker app. I use The Daily Plate via. Livestrong to track calories/exercise and the iPhone app is a great extension of that. So I know how much cheesecake I can eat without feeling guilty = )

Congrats on the new iPhone! I have no advice on the apps except the urbanspoon and the other one that finds music. I forget what it’s called but you can hold up the phone, it listens to the song then tells you the name of it.

I use the Yelp app all the time around Chicago to find bars, restaurants, Walgreens (even though we all know they’re every 2.5 blocks). Very useful.

Evernote is a great service (with a great iPhone app) for syncing notes (text, image, video, etc) all over.

Definitely get Remote..control your music from your phone!!

I have Urbanspoon, Twitterific and Twitterfone, Facebook, WordPress, Yelp, LOLcats, Midomi (hum a tune into the phone/hold up your phone to a speaker and it’ll tell you what song it is), Stitcher, Pandora, Kanji Flip (because I’m a Japanese major nerd), and CityTransit, which was awesome when I was in New York because it’s a NYC Subway map, basically.

I’m also a Bank of America member, and since they’re iPhone-friendly, I bookmarked the ATM finder and sent it to the main page. Ditto for all of my public transit stuff — instead of bookmarking them in Safari, I send the bookmark to the main page so I can just hit it from the main page and it’ll pop in Safari.

The twitter app that I have for my iphone is twitterific. I don’t like it as much as just going to the site on safari tho. You NEED urbanspoon. It’s a restaurant thing. Just trust me and get it. Here are some others: Pandora (music), Shazam (music), Showtimes (movies), iTalk (recorder), Minipiano (a mini piano, duh), and Tap Tap Revenge (kind of like guitar hero for your fingers).

I’m in complete love with my iPhone. The top apps for me so far are:

#1 Pocket Closet – 99 cents & it lets me keep track with photos of my wardrobe, and categorize my clothing. It’s completely stopped me from buying pointless clothing pieces because I can look at my phone and see I already have 5 blue shirts so why would I need another one! Best $1 Ever.

    #2 Pandora Radio

    #3 Facebook

    #4 Cube Runner

    #6 Amazon

    #7 Bigoven

    #8 Mandelbrot

    #9 Quick Graph

    #10 Useless… but amusing Bubblewrap

I use Twittelator and prefer it over Twitterific

Oh so fun! You’ll have to let me know tips, tricks, great apps, etc about the iphone when you get used to it. I think I’m getting one for Christmas…even though AT&T was being a huge jerk to my Mom. They were trying to charge her $400 for the $200 phone because we are ALREADY AT&T customers. How annoying.

Oh and I hear Shazam is amazing.

I was super close to getting a Blackberry Pearl but thankfully didn’t. I’ve heard so much bad stuff about it. I’d love an iPhone, but I’m probably the odd ball out since I like my phone and iPod separate from each other since the latter drains the battery of the former. Plus I don’t like to be interrupted when I’m listening to my music.

    I know, I’m a picky girl!

    Congrats on the new phone!
