sometimes all it takes is a haircut

February 6th, 2009 at 11:21 am . Posted in Chicago, hair, me me me .

When everything in your personal life is kind of crazy, when you only have a whisper of a relationship left because it’s now a “friendship”, when you work 6, if not 7, days a week and are about to go cross eyed from staring at your computer so much, when all you really want to do is sleep and lay around with your puppy…

Sometimes all you need is a haircut.

No, really.

I know sometimes in movies, salons are made out to be full of gossipy women who vent and rant to their hair stylists.  But really, my stylist rocks. While I filled her in on what’s been happening since the last time I see her and she snipped away at my hair, she listened and wasn’t just feigning interest. Then she gave me her thoughts on it.

And she’s right. All I needed was a little perspective, especially from someone who isn’t all wrapped up in my life.

I walked out with a new way of looking at things, some great conversation and an all around fierce head of hair.

P.S. That’s a picture I took last night, you can’t really tell but it’s about 3 inches shorter, layers are cleaned up and I have a bang again.
P.P.S. Chicago, if you need an amazing stylist talk to Mary at Orbit Salon. I also found out last night that she blogs too! Go say hi to her!
P.P.P.S. Just don’t try to book her when I’m in need of a hair cut or we will be in a fight.
P.P.P.P.S. No, seriously,I will kick some ass when it comes down to pretty hair.

(And don’t forget you can still ask me questions here and I’ll post answers soon)

I think feeling good about your hair is always the way to go when you are feeling a bit frayed about the edges. Not only does talking to a stylist help but feeling pretty will put a new bounce in your step. :-)

Going to the hair salon also provides a great opportunity to relax and feel pampered, even if it’s just a haircut. I’m sure with how much you’re working these days, a few moments of relaxation was much needed.

Super-cute! And I’m the same way with my hairstylist; she’s a good friend who I happen to pay to cut my hair. I actually went and got my hair cut right before I broke up with stupidstupidstupid ex-boyfriend (like, half an hour before), and it was good to get her perspective and sympathy and support.

I’m getting my hair cut tonight too and I cannot wait. I always feel so relieved to see hair falling on the floor and just the way they always style your hair perfect afterwards. It makes you not want to mess it up! yay for haircuts!

Haircuts put some bounce in your step and a little sass in your day that is worth any salon price.

Dude, getting a haircut is therapy for me. Good, cheap(ish) therapy.

This is one of the many reasons that I am jealous of women. My current hair rebellion is that I am not getting it cut until it bothers me so muc hthat I want to murder someone.

I worked for a company for years with a strict grooming and dress code. I just want 2.b.me.

I totally agree. I used to have really long hippie hair and I cut it myself. I am loving getting real, regular hair cuts. My stylist is great, and it’s so wonderful to feel like I can walk out of there with a new start on something.
